A catalogue of Cephalotini ant types (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae) deposited in the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Prado,Lívia P.; Brandão,Carlos Roberto F..
The Hymenoptera laboratory of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP) houses one of the most representative collections of Neotropical ants worldwide. This is due to the wide geographical distribution of its specimens, and also because of the comparatively large number of types and taxa represented. The catalogue, following the general recommendations of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, lists types of the tribe Cephalotini deposited in the collection of MZSP; also providing information regarding labels, original publications, state of conservation of specimens, taxonomic status of listed species, and their current classification when different from the original. An index for the listed taxa is also provided. In total,...

Brandão,Carlos Roberto F.; Esteves,Flávia A.; Prado,Lívia P..
This catalogue lists the type specimens of 37 species of Pseudomyrmecinae ants deposited in the Hymenoptera Formicidae collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, which holds types of the only two genera that occur in the Neotropics, Pseudomyrmex Lund and Myrcidris Ward. We record the label information, condition of the specimens, nomenclatural changes, type status, and provide an index of the listed taxa.

A revision of the Neotropical Solenopsidini ant genus Oxyepoecus Santschi, 1926 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae). 1. The Vezenyii species-group Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Albuquerque,Nicolas Lavor de; Brandão,Carlos Roberto F..
We revise the exclusively Neotropical solenopsidine ant genus Oxyepoecus, starting here with the Vezenyii species-group. We describe five new species (O. browni, O. ephippiatus, O. longicephalus, O. kempfi, and O. quadratus), present new locality records and sum the few data on the biology of the species already described.

Scott-Santos,Cristiane P.; Esteves,Flávia A.; Brandão,Carlos Roberto F..
The present catalogue lists the type specimes of 112 nominal " poneromorph" ant species housed in the Formicidae collection of the Hymenoptera laboratory, Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP). The catalogue includes types of Amblyoponinae, Ectatomminae, Heteroponerinae, Ponerinae, and Proceratiinae, that is, all poneromorph (sensu Bolton, 2003) but for the monotypic Paraponerinae, of which the collection bears no type specimens. We present here information on type categories (holotype, paratype, syntype, lectotype, and paralectotype), label data, nomenclatural changes since the original description and type specimens conservation status. At last we present indexes for the taxa names presented.

Cerrado ground-dwelling ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) as indicators of edge effects Rev. Bras. Zool.
Brandão,Carlos Roberto F.; Silva,Rogério R.; Feitosa,Rodrigo M..
Large-scale agricultural production in Brazil preferentially occupies plateaus reclaimed from areas originally covered by Cerrado (savanna). Depending on the region, a percentage of the pristine vegetation coverage must be preserved by law, resulting in the creation of fragmented legal Cerrado reserves. The geometry of these relatively small legal reserves creates new habitat edges and ecotones, whose effects on the invertebrate fauna are poorly understood. This study aimed to assess the effects of abrupt edges resulting from soy production on ground-dwelling ant assemblages in the Brazilian Cerrado. The study sites are located within the Amazon region, in the state of Maranhão, northern Brazil, but were covered by Cerrado on a relatively low plateau,...

In total, the collection includes types of 141 nominal species, of which 56 are still valid. The majority of types of dorylomorph species in the MZSP collection are syntypes (67 species), but there are as well 13 species represented by holotypes only, 17 by holotypes and paratypes, 43 species by paratypes only, and one species by a paralectotype. Klingenberg,Christiana; Brandão,Carlos Roberto F..
We present here a list of the Attini type material deposited in the Formicidae collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP), Brazil. In total, the Attini (fungus-growing and leaf-cutting ants) collection includes types of 105 nominal species, of which 74 are still valid, whereas 31 are considered synonyms. The majority of the types in the MZSP collection are syntypes (74), but in the collection there are 4 species represented only by holotypes, 12 by holotypes and paratypes, 13 species only by paratypes, and 2 species by the lectotype and one paralectotype as well. All holotypes and paratypes refer to valid species. The aim of this type list is to facilitate consultation and to encourage further revisionary studies of the Attini...
